MASTER SERGEANT DANIEL J. CONNELLY
A native of Green bay, Wis., Master Sgt. Connelly enlisted in the Marine Corps in February 1980 at the age of 17. Upon completion of recruit training, Master Sgt.Connelly reported to the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Va., for instrumental instruction on Tuba and Electric Bass.
Following his graduation from the Armed Forces School of Music, Master Sgt.Connelly received orders to the Third Marine Amphibious Force Band in Okinawa, Japan. During his three year assignment overseas, Master Sgt. Connelly toured extensively throughout the Far East and returned to the United States October 1984.
Selected for recruiting duty following his first tour with the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band (3d MAW), Master Sgt. Connelly reported to Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Houston, Texas in October of 1988. After completing 3 years in the recruiting field, Master Sgt. Connelly received orders to the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Band in 29 Palms, Calif. Upon completing this assignment, he was then transferred to the Armed Forces School of Music Section Leaders Course. Master Sgt. Connelly is currently serving his second non-consecutive tour with the 3d MAW Band. He earned the military occupational specialty of Drum Major in December of 1995.
Master Sgt. Connelly's personal decorations include the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars, the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon with one bronze star, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with four bronze stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with two bronze stars, and the Recruiting Service Ribbon.
